The innovative curricular design proposed for Pi High would allow a student to focus mostly on Common Core subjects at the beginning of their high school studies, then focus mostly on art and technology subjects as their required vocational and career electives in their final two years of study. The following Year One to Four timetables outline a student’s daily program and schedule:
YEARS ONE & TWO (Traditional 9th + 10th Grade -- Freshman & Sophomore) The purpose of Years One and Two learning is to embed Common Core learning and provide a basic introduction to a range of art+media sectors which include practical skills central to a range of disciplines. NewHolly learners will benefit from insight into the skills required to pursue further specialized study. YEAR THREE (Traditional 11th Grade -- Junior) With less emphasis on Common Core learning, the purpose of Year Three learning is to encourage NewHolly students to further explore a range of practical skills and to develop a broad underpinning knowledge. The curriculum will provide the tools for students to explore creative ideas and to develop their concepts/projects from an increasingly informed perspective. YEAR FOUR (Traditional 12th Grade -- Senior) Year Four learning is intended to encourage sophistication of thought and application, as well as a higher degree of critical appraisal. Learners will be encouraged to develop intellectual and practical skills which meet higher education entry requirements, as well as transferable skills and knowledge that support other progression routes, such as community college and/or employment. All Seniors will be required to undertake work experience (10 days) so they are equipped with an awareness of common working practices prior to graduation. All seniors will also graduate with a lifetime Digital Portfolio that showcases four years of hands-on art+tech projects. >Next: What? School Facilities |
