WHY Pi?
|
Pi : the perfect name for a high school of the arts and interactive technology.
Pi is a famous number. Every middle school student learns that Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Regardless of the size of the circle, Pi is always the same number; it is a constant. Pi references the world we know, understood through math and science. Pi is also an irrational, unknowable number; it is a number that stretches off to infinity without any known pattern or final digit. Pi reminds us of the mystery of creation; the challenge of inventing new ideas as artists and engineers. Pi is deeply embedded in our natural world. Anything that is shaped like a circle incorporates the number Pi -- the sun and the moon; the double helix spiral of our DNA; the concentric ripples on a pond's surface, and the shape of winding river bends. Pi is definitely a “Wow!” number which aptly describes a high school committed to preparing its students for exciting careers in the arts and media. >Next : Why ART? |
