WHY CHARTER? |
Pi High is proposed as a small, specialized charter school where the academic success of every student is the paramount goal of every member of the school's learning community -- students, parents, teachers and administrators.
Charter means tuition free. Like all public schools, regardless of family income or student special needs, charter schools are tax-payer funded and do not require or receive payment from families for students to receive a high-quality education. Charter means choice. Any adolescent who is eligible to enroll in a district high school has the choice to apply to a Washington state charter school like Pi High. While Pi High recruitment will focus on students of color, students from low-income families and students at risk of dropping out of high school, any student across the region is welcome to apply. Charter means autonomy. Pi High will be an independent school where the culture, traditions and policies of the learning community will be developed to reflect the voices and values of all of its stakeholders - students, families, teachers, administrators and supporters. Charter means educational innovation. As a charter school, Pi High may develop a unique school model to meet its educational and community goals. Notwithstanding, Pi High will still be required to meet all state-mandated testing and credit requirements. Charter means academic accountability. All Pi High students will be required to take, and score well on, state-mandated tests. This requirement ensures that Pi High provide a rigorous curriculum and uphold high expectations for all students. >Next: Why Pi High? |
